2020 Holiday Party
Like so many things in 2020, the Holiday Party didn’t look like we’d planned, but the joy, the smiles, and the spirit of family remained.
Due to Covid-19, the Holiday Party planning team created a beautiful Covid-safe drive-thru event for our families. Sadly, as the event date approached, infection rates were skyrocketing. We knew we had to take further precautions to keep volunteers, as well as the families in the cars, safe. So, in order to follow the mayor and CDC’s recommendations, we felt we had no choice but to cancel the in-person event, altogether.
Still, we had families counting on us and we weren’t about to let them down. Didn’t we all need an extra boost of holiday cheer after the year we’d had? So we banded together to salvage what we could and were pretty proud of the results.
See what your donations allowed us to do for local families, despite the pandemic:
We called on our AMAZING network of volunteers to sanitize, wrap, and personally deliver gift packages with everything below. We provided sanitization packs to each delivery volunteer. Then we worked with each family to visit in the way that they were most comfortable- delivering to homes, porches, driveways- celebrating the holidays in the best way we could this year.
Continuing our annual Holiday Party tradition, we purchased an individualized gift for each of our friends with neuromuscular disease. We also purchased a special and unique gift for each patient to present to a caregiver of their choice. We know how important it is for our patients to be able to say a worry-free thanks to the people who support them most.
We worked with family members to surprise each patient with a unique personalized caricature from Nick and Patty Nix at Cartoon Ups.
We wanted each family to have a warm holiday meal, with no cooking involved. So each care package included a meal coupon redeemable for a local pickup or delivery. Time saved on dinner equals more invaluable time with loved ones.
